Alabaster has a rare ability to make light feel tangible. Used in sculpture, decorative objects, and architecture for centuries, this fine-grained gypsum stone is prized for its natural translucency. When illuminated, light passes gently through the material, revealing subtle veining, cloudy mineral patterns, and tonal variations that remain hidden when the stone is unlit.
Most of the alabaster in our collection is sourced from Aragón, Spain, including deposits in the Zaragoza and Teruel regions, where alabaster quarrying and craftsmanship have a long history. We also use selected stone from Italy and Iran when its color, density, or natural pattern is better suited to a particular fixture.
No two pieces of natural alabaster are identical. One shade may be soft ivory with quiet, even movement, while another may contain amber veining, layered mineral clouds, or more pronounced variations in tone. These differences are not imperfections; they are part of the material itself.
For lighting, the quality of alabaster depends on more than appearance alone. Thickness, translucency, veining, and stone selection all influence how a fixture diffuses light. Each alabaster component is therefore selected, cut, matched, and finished with attention to both its natural character and its performance when illuminated.
